Set Designer Opportunity
Pocklington Arts Centre is seeking a Set Designer for its 2026 Christmas production, a brand new festive family show written by Elizabeth Godber.
We are looking for an imaginative and collaborative designer to create the visual concept and set design for the production, working closely with the writer, director and PAC team to bring the world of the show to life.
The role also includes designing a small foyer installation linked to PAC’s wider Christmas programme and themed around the world of the show, helping to extend the visual identity of the production beyond the auditorium and into the audience’s arrival experience.
This role is for concept and design only. The successful designer will work alongside PAC and the appointed maker to realise the final design.
Fee
£800 fixed fee
This covers set design, concept development, design meetings and delivery of the final design.
Timeline
- Design period: October 2026
- Final design to be delivered by: early November 2026
- Foyer installation design to be ready for installation by: 21 November 2026
Applicants should be available across October 2026 for design development and production meetings, with final designs delivered in time for PAC and the appointed maker to progress build and installation ahead of rehearsals and the launch of the Christmas programme.
Role includes
- Developing the set concept and visual world of the production
- Attending design / production meetings with the writer, director and PAC team
- Producing a final set design suitable for the scale and technical requirements of PAC
- Designing a small foyer installation connected to the production and wider Christmas programme
- Working within the agreed budget and practical parameters of the production
- Liaising with PAC staff and the appointed maker regarding the realisation of the design
We are looking for someone with
- Experience of set design for theatre or live performance
- Strong visual storytelling and conceptual design skills
- The ability to create practical, achievable designs within a modest budget
- Good communication and collaborative working skills
We are particularly keen to hear from designers based in Yorkshire / the North, or within a realistic travelling distance of Pocklington, East Yorkshire.
