Whether you’re a seasoned poet or just curious to give it a go, this friendly and relaxed workshop is all about discovering inspiration and enjoying the creative process.

We’ll play with a range of writing prompts using pictures, words, and our own imaginations and experiences. Starting with fun free-writing exercises and moving through some readings from inspiring poets and other prompts, you’ll have the chance to explore new themes and leave with plenty of fresh material to develop.

We’ll also chat about what comes next: sharing tips on where to find poetry submission opportunities, competitions, and magazines if you’re thinking about getting your work out into the world.

Bring a notebook, a pen, and your curiosity. There are no right or wrong answers or writing styles, just an opportunity to write and have fun with words.

Welcome to a full day celebrating stories, creativity, and the brilliant bookish community of the Wolds.

Join us as we give a platform to those with new books, new poems, and talk to authors who’ve dipped their toes into the world of publishing fiction.

To those on their own writing journey, we have two workshops – one on creating compelling dialogue led by Alexandra Weston, well known for her creative writing teaching, and a poetry workshop led by Louise Renton, giving you full permission to play around with words and boost your creativity.

We’ll be featuring local authors Tracey Foley (middle grade fiction) and actress Charlotte Dolman (psychological thrillers); Jen Moon (specialising in nutrition for those with ADHD) and Sara Sartagne (historical and contemporary romantic fiction).

We also have interviews with those in the trade!

We’ll be speaking to Georgina Wilson, a bookseller whose shop in Hornsea, Clutterbooks, opened only months ago! We’ll discover more about the reading groups she’s organised – some with wine! – and the local authors she’s supporting.

And we are in conversation with two traditionally published authors – Alexandra Weston, who writes romantic fiction set in the golden era of Hollywood, and Val Wood, described by Radio 4’s Open Book, Front Row as ‘the Catherine Cookson of Hull’.
