A Pocklington Panoramic by Helen Frank

Sat 29 Aug 10.00am

Sat 29 Aug – Fri 25 Sep

Having returned to the town she grew up in, following a decade of exhibiting in Paris, London, and beyond, Helen Frank’s new work charts the experience of being somewhere familiar, but looking at it from a new perspective. This re-finding process relies on memory too. When we travel through a space, our journey is never a flat or two-dimensional experience, it incorporates the passing of time; our narrative of a place is built up in layers. And this is something that happens to us all.

To capture this phenomenon in A Pocklington Panoramic, Helen’s large scale drawings of the town are in a Cubist style of shifting perspectives, depicting both near and far, and with many vanishing points.

Helen Frank is an artist and writer who gained a Master of Fine Art with Distinction from Sheffield Hallam in 2013. She has previously exhibited at The Sorbonne, Paris, Berlin and London. She has had works featured in many publications including an international touring Exhibition ‘Postcards For Perec’ and her work is held in permanent collections in London including The Colony Room and The French House, Soho. Helen won the inaugural award for an Outstanding Exhibition Prize from Sheffield Hallam in 2013.
