Pocklington Arts & Dramatic Society – We Are Who We Play We Are

Tue 6 Oct 6.30pm | £10

Let your talent shine in this group-devised show based on real stories from your life. Over 6 sessions you will share stories with the group, learn verbatim theatre skills, and devise and perform in a unique studio show at Pocklington Arts Centre.

The first session on Tuesday 6 October will introduce you to story-sharing and techniques for turning your story into drama. Over the next five Saturday sessions you will create and rehearse a group-devised theatre piece that is unique to you.

This drama project is for adults aged 18+ and open to everyone regardless of ability or experience. It is suitable for absolute beginners and seasoned performers alike. However, we do ask that all participants attend all 6 sessions.

Session times are as follows:

Tuesday 6 October – 6.30pm-8.30pm (Intro to Story Sharing & Verbatim Theatre)
Saturday 10 October – 10.00am-1.00pm
Saturday 17 October – 10.00am-1.00pm
Saturday 24 October – 10.00am-1.00pm
Saturday 31 October – 10.00am-1.00pm
Saturday 7 November – 10.00am-1.00pm

The final morning session on 7 November will culminate in an afternoon sharing performance at 2.30pm

This project will be led by theatre director and writer Rupert Creed. Rupert has over 40 years professional experience working with both community and professional actors. He has directed several verbatim theatre shows focusing on the working lives of people in Yorkshire, as well as large-cast community plays in Hull, Howden, Bridlington and for Dorchester in Dorset.

He has worked as a BBC Producer, and was the writer of ‘Made in Hull’- the opening event for Hull City of Culture 2017. He has written and presented for BBC Radio 4, and is the and co-writer and director of the award winning ‘Turn and Face the Strange’ that celebrates the music and life of Hull-born guitarist Mick Ronson.
