Phil Dawson is a guitarist and composer originally from East Riding, now returning after sell-out shows at Ronnie Scotts & Pizza Express Jazz Club. He learned his art working with an array of well-known artists from different African, Brazilian, Jazz and Funk traditions such as Osibisa, Tony Allen, Mulatu Astatke, Dele Sosimi and Hugh Masekela.
Phil will be joined by talented musicians, including:
Rowland Sutherland – international-class flute virtuoso, original Jazz Warrior, acclaimed improvisor and composer for numerous ensembles in jazz, world and contemporary classical genres.
Maurizio Ravalico – extraordinary percussionist, who is not only fully schooled in the Afro-Cuban tradition, but has developed his own sonic language with a unique arsenal of custom-made and co-opted instruments.
Nim Sadot – virtuoso jazz and groove bassist with three albums as leader, and who has worked with Harvey Mason, Tony Lakatos, Snowboy, plus many others.
Marius Rodrigues – great Brazilian drummer who plays regularly with Da Lata, Jim Mullen, Nigel Price, Monica Vasconcelos, and more.
His quintet will perform material from his debut album: ‘It’s Time’. Expect a rich evening of percussion-heavy, Afrocentric grooves, hints of Coltrane, Hermeto Pascoal, Tony Williams and the Afro-Brazilian tradition, all blended uniquely with grooving originals and spontaneous interludes.
